The £1,500 Project Meeting

The most expensive thing in your project isn't what you think.

It's a the endless one-hour meetings with either the wrong people, or the wrong agenda. And I've seen this everywhere, hell, I've definitely been guilty of it myself in the past!

Look at the maths. 10 senior team members in a room for 1 hour.

Even being conservative, the average loaded cost is probably about £150 per hour per person.

⚠️ That's a £1,500 meeting. ⚠️

Did that meeting generate £1,500 of value? Was the outcome worth more than the cost of that hour? Unfortunately, the answer is often "no".

Whether you like it or not, you need to be ruthless with meeting discipline. You are not just protecting your team's time, but the time of every senior leader involved.

👉 One simple rule is to cancel the meeting if there is no clear decision to be made.

👉 Another is to make sure you prepare everyone in advance for the meeting, so they walk in knowing what they need to know, and informed enough to make the decisions or necessary contributions that will move the project forward.

Protect your and your leadership's time like it's your project's budget - because it is.
